Over the past few months, one thing I continually thank God for is where I was and where I am now. Yet there’s a lingering question I often bring before Him: I know I don’t deserve all of this, for I am a sinner—but why me and my family? You have kept us safe and sound, and I know I don’t deserve any of it. This is one of those questions that always turns into gratitude when I speak with God. Even recently, while watching my daughters perform at a school event, I found myself sitting there in the auditorium, thanking God for what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do in my life.

I’m deeply grateful that God has placed it in my heart to write this blog, because it has become a form of self-reflection—seeing what God is doing and how He is working in my life. As I was reading Deuteronomy 7, I came across a passage that I believe we should know by heart. Let me paraphrase it: the Lord did not choose the people of Israel because they were mighty or because they were many in number. In fact, they were the least of all peoples. He chose them simply because He loved them and because He was faithful to the oath He swore to their fathers.

This passage opened my eyes to the answer that had been lingering in my mind all along. It’s simple—because He loves me. Although this answer seems obvious, and I often look for a deeper theological explanation, it reminded me that God is found in the simplest truths. I am usually the one who complicates things, even when God has already given me the answer. This also reminded me of something else. Some time ago, my mentor asked my wife and me to speak on a topic about marriage, and as we prepared together, one of the key aspects we reflected on was love. Today, that same conversation came back to me as I connected it with a familiar New Testament passage. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

As I reflect on these passages, one thing becomes clear—love is more than an emotion; it is a decision. God made that decision, and He remains faithful to it no matter what we do. Like the father in the story of the prodigal son, even when the son walked away and later returned, he was welcomed with open arms. In the same way, God waits for us with open arms, ready to receive us and restore us into His kingdom.

I don’t know what mindset you’re in today. I don’t know what circumstances you’re facing—whether you’re praising God or struggling with Him, worshipping or questioning, talking or listening. But the one thing I want you to know is this: He loves you, no matter what.
